London calling

I'm travelling again! The last few weeks in Frankfurt had been a bit slow (blog-wise), because I decided to give up my flat and have everything put into storage. So, once again, I went through my stuff, gave (or threw) things away, and started to put the rest into boxes. So not that much to write about. But now I'm in London! For the first time, I went here by train (the fast connection including the Eurostar from Brussels), which was great! So much better than flying. When I had arrived, so had spring! Everything's in bloom here - much more than back home.

The reason I came here (not that I needed a reason to go to London) was that my little sister had the graduation lunch of the second part of her patisserie course. And we decided to build a week of eating and drinking around that. We've been quite successful so far, and now that I've found an internet cafe, I hope I'll be posting more, and also upload photos again (but today, I forgot my camera).

Frankfurt News

Frankfurt has a new shopping mall. Yippie. It does look quite cool from the outside - inside it's the same old made-in-China stuff that can be bought anywhere else in the world. We are told that the best way to overcome the current crisis is to consume more. I'm not buying it.

But I did see something really new: If you feel lost in the asphalt jungle you can rent a backpack with a tree inside and carry it with you while you go shopping :-)

A much better way to save the world, isn't it?

"Finding the love"

Last Friday, I went to the opening of the exhibition "Warm the Winter" by artist Moira Brown. One of the many things I liked about that evening was Moira explaining about her new project, the "Zen Book of Hours". She will paint something from her garden every day of the year, and described how she's "finding the love" in little things like roots, seeds, brambles, or even a pair of pine needles.

This idea has struck a chord with me. I'm back at home now, and at first found everything here a bit dull, grey and ordinary (after the exotic colours and sounds of Australia). But if I look a bit closer, there are things of beauty everywhere, and I'll try to find them right here and now!
