All is not lost

I've taken a decision: I'll continue writing this blog. I was so thrilled today when I saw a little giant girl scooting past me on the streets of Berlin! And then I thought that as long as there are still people thinking up crazy projects like creating giant puppets and staging a play with them in the city, all's not lost for this world. And it would be a shame not to write about it. So, I'll continue to blog about my travels, whether they are far away or down the street (or just in my head, even).

Britainblog

Hello friends,

As promised, there's a new blog to watch. It's a co-production with my new colleagues, all about travel - to Great Britain.

See you there!

I've arrived!

I can't believe it, but my time's up. My sabbatical time, that is. A great and wonderful year is over. I've been on the other side of the earth (almost), enjoyed my longest summer ever (and didn't get sunburned), learned a new language (somewhat), and met some interesting and inspiring people (and some that I'm glad I won't have to meet again).

Now I'm back in Berlin, and will try to set down roots here. So meike won't be reisening for some time. Probably. But a new blog will come soon (diesmal auf deutsch). So watch this space. Bye for now!

I see dead people

I think I did go overboard a bit when I took the pictures at Cimiterio di Staglieno (above, just a small selection). But somehow, the statues spoke to me.
Not literally, in case you were worried...

For Kathleen

(and other girls - and boys - who might be interested): Here he is, Genova's main lifeguard. The front didn't quite fulfil the expectations raised by the back. But still, not too bad, all things considered!

Ciao Spritz

This is the picture of the much-loved Spritz. I'm hereby saying goodbye to it (for now): Thanks, dear Spritz, for all the lovely aperitivos you've shared with me! But I've had enough of you and am going back to my old love, the Bellini, now.

Lakes and cities

I just realised why I'm not writing much in my blog anymore: I'm not travelling, am I? I actually live here in Genova! How cool is that? But having said that, I've done a bit of travelling last weekend and went to Milano and Lago di Como. The weather was a bit strange (kind of autumnal, actually), but I enjoyed it hugely! We had dinner in Bellagio (the name itself is worth making a trip to I think), in a very nice restaurant just on the bank of the lake.

During dinner, one of my friends asked what I had learned in my year of travelling. Good question. I already have some ideas, but will think about it some more. Here's the first answer (in a song):
